Plan and Do

A brilliant plan is wasted without execution. Nothing will come of it.

Execution alone may or may not move things forward. And if it does, many mistakes and wasted resources could have been avoided with a plan.

Planning and execution have different purposes, but they must work together. We, however, seem to lean on one more than the other most of the time.

We must be careful to avoid getting stuck in planning mode, overanalyzing and never really starting. We must also be careful of executing with direction. As Covey taught us, we must "begin with the end in mind."
